Netherlands Mechanics Committee
The Netherlands Mechanics Committee (abbreviated
NMC) is a platform for all scientific and engineering activities in The
Netherlands in the field of fluid and solid mechanics.
The NMC was established in February 2004 and it
functions as an umbrella organization for three existing Constituent
Organizations in The Netherlands that are active in the field of fluid and solid
mechanics, namely:
The principal objectives of the NMC are:
- to discuss and propose
the formal representation of the Dutch mechanics community in international
organizations;
- to foster cooperation
between the graduate schools J.M. Burgers Centre (fluid mechanics) and
Engineering Mechanics (solid mechanics), especially regarding research areas
of mutual interest. More specifically, both graduate schools will exchange
information on the scientific and educational programmes and will admit each
others members to these activities as if they were their own members;
- to carry out the
co-ordination of the activities for a Netherlands MSc program on Fluid and
Solid Mechanics. This inter-university MSc program is linked to the Delft
University of Technology, the Eindhoven University of Technology and the
University of Twente. All Dutch contributors to this MSc program participate
in either of the aforementioned graduate schools J.M. Burgers Centre and
Engineering Mechanics;
- to stimulate
international activities of the Dutch mechanics community, for instance the
organization of conferences.
After its establishment in February 2004, the
NMC has been formally recognized as the Dutch representative organization in
fluid and solid mechanics by
- the International Union
of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM);
- the International
Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM);
- the European Mechanics
Society (EUROMECH)
and
- the European Community
on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences (ECCOMAS).
The current members of the NMC Board are:
- Prof.Dr.Ir. D.H. (Dick)
